How to reset data values DB to factory defaults when it has filled up to its max size:
After years of using DT Pro, the Data Values database can fill up and reach its max size (i.e. 4GB for SQL Server 2005 and older, or 10 GB for SQL Server 2008 and newer). There are in some cases that there is a desire to start with a fresh Data Values database again. The steps below will show you how to do this.
NOTE: This will give you a fresh start, and getting access to old data in the old Data Values database will not be easy, once you decide to proceed down this path. Make sure that you have backed up all your old data first before proceeding.
1. Shutdown DT Pro
2. Bring up Windows Services Control Panel
3. Find a service by the name of “SQL Server (SQLDTRF)” and temporarily stop it
4. Browse to C:\ProgramData\DTPro
5. Rename the \Data folder to “Data_OLDx” where “x” can be any number, in case if you have already a few old folders of \Data
6. Browse to C:\Program Files\DataTrace Pro\Schema
7. Copy \Data folder from C:\Program Files\DataTrace Pro\Schema and paste it into C:\ProgramData\DTPro
8. Go back to Windows Services Control Panel
9. Find a service by the name of “SQL Server (SQLDTRF)” and restart it
10. Launch DT Pro
11. Do not worry, when you see an error message saying that it is unable to connect to Data Values database. Wait for the Database Configuration Utilities window to appear. Once it does appear, it will flag the “Data Values”
database connection as not working.
12. With the “Data Values Database” option selected on the left side, click the Test Database Connection button
13. Wait for it to attempt to connect. It WILL error out and say that the database has not been initialized.
14. Click Initialize Database button, and wait for the application to initialize the new database file
15. Once initialization is successful, DT Pro will resume its normal operation
